Product details

The GNSS Flex modules are designed to be easily swappable for repairs or future upgrades. They connect to the main board of the Facet FP via standardized 2x10-pin headers, breaking out its triple UARTs, I²C interface, and key timing and event signals.

No soldering required

With pre-soldered female headers, GNSS Engines easily stack onto male headers inside for the Facet FP. Each option carries a standardized 2x10 header pinout, ensuring compatibility for simplified upgrades or repairs.

Future Proof

We've seen the high-precision GNSS market rapidly expand in the past few years and we've designed our modular GNSS Engines to keep up. No longer do you need to purchase entirely new devices, just swap out the modules as new options are released.

Customizing and future-proofing GNSS has never been easier.

Each engine is built around a different GNSS receiver, and all of them can be used inside the Facet FP. For projects with different corrections needs, or if you just want to try out something new down the road, it's easier than ever to swap out your GNSS capabilities.

Our GNSS Engines are designed to let your device evolve.

We believe users should have total control over the devices they own. In addition to being repairable and open-source, the Facet FP is user-upgradeable as well. With five minutes and a Philips head screwdriver, the FP can be opened up and the module can be fully switched out.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page for more general help.

Will SparkPNT be adding new GNSS Engines?

Short answer: It depends.

It depends on when new GNSS technology provides meaningful advantages.

The GNSS Modules chosen for our GNSS Engines were selected to each offer a distinct combination of performance, features, and price point. Our goal isn't to offer as many GNSS Engine options as possible—it's to offer options that solve different customer needs.

As new GNSS modules become available, we continually evaluate them for inclusion in the Facet FP. However, we likely won't introduce a new GNSS Engine unless it provides a meaningful benefit over existing options, such as:

  • Improved positioning performance
  • New capabilities or features
  • Better power efficiency
  • Enhanced signal tracking
  • A significantly different price-to-performance profile

If a future GNSS module offers compelling advantages, we'll certainly evaluate it for inclusion in the Facet FP lineup.

Does changing out GNSS Engines void my warranty?

No, as long as you are within the one year warranty period and all you do is remove and replace the GNSS Engine you warranty will still be valid.

Is it easy to upgrade or replace GNSS Engines?

Yes! All it takes is a screwdriver and a steady hand to access the engine. Please view our installation guide for step-by-step instructions.

How do SparkPNT GNSS engines differ from the GNSS Flex Module's found at SparkFun?

The GNSS Flex Modules are the same as the GNSS Engines found on SparkPNT. What started as a way to add high-precision GNSS with Raspberry Pis and other single board computers lead to creating modularity with our Facet FP lineup.

Note: the GNSS Engines listed on this page are the only boards that will work with the Facet FP. The other GNSS Flex Boards listed on SparkFun do not have the firmware necessary to work with the Facet FP.
